Craigslist Scams in AB

Recently there have been several reports that people have gone to Craiglist Calgary looking for a rental apartment. The "owner" says he or she isout of town and to send the deposit and they will send the keys. Often the rent is too low to be true.

Police investigated another scam post on Craigslist last month that advertised a Victoria condo, but showed only photos of the building's exterior.

The alleged owner claimed to live out of province and offered to mail the keys if the person sent a damage deposit.

"People need to do their homework and you need to go physically see the place, talk to someone and have a written contract," said police.
